HOME > CITY GUIDE > CUMALIKIZIK VILLAGE
Nestled on the slopes of Mount Uludağ, Cumalıkızık Village is one of the most significant examples of civil architecture that has preserved its original fabric from the founding period of the Ottoman Empire to the present day. Included on the UNESCO World Heritage List, this historic village takes visitors on a journey back in time with its colorful wooden and adobe mansions, narrow cobblestone streets, historical fountains, and unspoiled rural atmosphere.
Painted in shades of yellow, blue, purple, and white, over 200 historical mansions showcase the family life and civil architectural elegance of the era. Walking through the narrow cobblestone streets, you can spot traces of Ottoman village life at every step.
One of the most intriguing spots in the village, Cin Aralığı is a historical passage wide enough for only one person to pass at a time. According to local legend, villagers hiding from Greek soldiers during the War of Independence escaped through this narrow gap.
Located in the village square, the museum displays household items, agricultural tools, and traditional clothing used in the village throughout history. The historic Cumalıkızık Mosque and centuries-old plane trees right next to the museum are also well worth seeing.
Have Breakfast in a Mansion Courtyard: Enjoy a long village breakfast with fresh gözleme and homemade jams in the garden of a historical mansion.
Walk Through Cin Aralığı: Take photos in Cin Aralığı, considered one of the narrowest streets in the world.
Explore the Local Products Market: Purchase hand-rolled noodles (erişte), tarhana, pine cone syrup, and fresh mountain fruits handmade by local village women.
Visit Early in the Day: The village becomes very crowded, especially on weekends due to tour buses. Arriving between 09:00 and 10:00 AM is recommended to take photos and enjoy breakfast in a peaceful atmosphere.
Footwear Choice: Flat, non-slip sneakers are strongly recommended to walk comfortably on the steep and uneven cobblestone streets.
