HOME > CITY GUIDE > İNKAYA HISTORICAL PLANE TREE
Located in İnkaya Village at the foot of Mount Uludağ, the İnkaya Historical Plane Tree is a living wonder of nature with an age exceeding 600 years, featuring a massive trunk and branches extending for meters that bore witness to the early years of the Ottoman Empire. As one of Turkey’s oldest and widest plane trees, this majestic tree is one of the most popular stops for Bursa tours and a delightful tea break, thanks to its immense leafy shade and mountain air.
Boasting an imposing appearance with 13 main branches and a trunk circumference reaching nearly 10 meters, the İnkaya Plane Tree offers a captivating atmosphere in every season. You can inspect the special support structures holding up its giant branches and spend time in its shade.
Right around the tree, an authentic village market offers fresh fruits picked directly from local gardens (especially the famous Bursa mountain strawberries and raspberries), homemade jams, hand-rolled noodles (erişte), fresh gözleme (savory Turkish flatbread), and hand-woven souvenirs.
Positioned on the foothills of Uludağ, the tea gardens and terraces under the plane tree offer a perfect environment to breathe in the crisp mountain air and take in the view of Bursa.
Enjoy Tea & Coffee in the Tree’s Shade: Do not leave without drinking freshly brewed tea or Turkish coffee cooked on embers under the giant branches.
Taste Fresh Fruit Platter: Try fresh mountain strawberries, raspberries, and blackberries picked directly from the locals’ gardens.
Take a Photo in Front of the Giant Trunk: Capture a souvenir photo in front of the massive trunk and canopy of branches covering the sky.
Weekend Crowds: It can get quite crowded, especially during noon on weekends. Visiting in the morning hours or on weekdays is recommended for a quieter and more peaceful atmosphere.
Weather Conditions: Situated on the slopes of Uludağ, it can be a few degrees cooler and windier than the city center; bringing a light jacket or cardigan is recommended.
