Muradiye Complex, the last complex commissioned by Ottoman sultans in Bursa, is a peaceful historic site beneath large plane trees. Built by Sultan Murad II in 1425–1426, it comprises a mosque, madrasah, bath, soup kitchen and 12 dynastic tombs.

Sultan Murad II Mosque and Madrasah

The mosque located in the centre of the complex is one of the most elegant examples of Early Ottoman architecture. The madrasa next to it is currently used as the Handicrafts Museum and hosts rare works of traditional tiles and calligraphy.

Muradiye Tombs (Dynasty Cemetery)

The complex contains 12 dynastic tombs, including those of Sultan Murad II, Prince Mustafa, Prince Cem and Hüma Hatun, the mother of Mehmed the Conqueror. The site brings together many members of the Ottoman dynasty outside Istanbul, with striking tilework and painted dome decorations.

Transportation from Hotel:

  • By Car: Approximately 10-12 minutes by car from our hotel
  • Public Transportation: You can reach it by getting off at Altıparmak by Silkworm tram and walking for about 10 minutes.
  • Taxi (Recommended): Since the distance to the centre is very short, if you are 3-4 people, the taxi fare may be close to the public transport fare; It is the most comfortable option to reach the social complex directly without climbing the hill.

Accessibility:

  • Wheelchair & Baby Stroller: The complex garden and outdoor areas are flat and suitable for wheelchair and stroller use. Tomb Entrances: There are low steps at the entrances of some historical tombs and mosque thresholds.

Parking:

  • There are short-term parking areas around the complex and on nearby streets.

Visiting Hours:

  • The mosque and social complex garden are open to visitors all day long. The interior of the tomb can usually be visited between 09:00 - 17:30.

Visit Duration:

  • 30 - 45 minutes (including tomb visits, inside the mosque and garden walk).

Food & Beverage Facilities:

  • Social Complex Surroundings & Cafes: There are boutique cafes in the garden of the social complex and right across the street where you can have a tea/coffee break in a historical atmosphere.

  • Traditional Flavours: near the complex Historical Muradiye Soup Maker and you can experience flavours from Ottoman cuisine in local restaurants.

  • Best Time for Photography: The moments when the sunlight hits the tomb tiles in the morning offer wonderful photographs.

  • Silence and Respect: Since the tomb area is an active visiting point, it is recommended to plan a calm and quiet trip.
